Pre-Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner
So my roommates decided that we have all been so busy with our semester lately that we needed to invite some friends over and host a pot luck dinner to escape it all. Welll tonight my awesome roommates and I hosted that pre-Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner and boy was it a great night! Our menu consisted of: Turkey with vegetables, Ham, Baked Ziti, Goulash, Cornbread stuffing, Mac and cheese/corn casserole, peas, and of course Party rye! Is your mouth watering yet? For dessert we had pumpkin pie and cookies (if your mouth wasn’t watering before I bet it is now)
What about drinks you may ask? Well most people enjoyed a variety of soda in solo cups but we also offered up some Absolut and beer. I enjoyed a few Granny Smith flavored WoodChucks (which I had wanted all fall and they finally went on sale—yes!).
But I am not just writing here to brag about my feast. I am just feeling very thankful to have such great people in my life who can all come together, feast, and have a great time! Our night concluded with rounds of “Apples to Apples” and a lot of laughter! It was one of those dinner parties that went so well that as my friends left they thanked me for inviting them to such a great party and they urged me to plan another one soon. Everyone who was invited tonight were not invited at random—they are my closest friends (and roomies friends) and I never want them to leave my life. I spent so many semesters of college picking through the bad friends in order to find these good ones and you know what? I wish I had found them sooner!(So if you are in the progress of sorting through the bad ones, keep the faith that the good ones are soon to come) :)
I am also thankful to be going home next week to celebrate Thanksgiving with my wonderful family. There is such a sense of peace and comfort and thankfulness that crosses my entire body as I think about how fortunate I am to have so many people to celebrate with (both here at school and back home in a different state). I know I’ve posted some not-as-happy things lately but I felt that it was important to share both the happy and the sad, so I am posting this as a reminder to me (and more importantly to everyone else) to remember to Thank God for the happy moments in your life as well as the sad because I think a lot of us sometimes only consult Him in times of trouble, but we also need to remember to Thank Him in times of joy. And remember, “live as if everyday is sunny because it can’t rain forever.”
One last note: what they say is true, you can always tell how well a party went by the aftermath clean up of it and let me just say—it’s now midnight and we have been restoring our house since the event ended about an hour ago. NIGHT WELL SPENT. Here’s to wishing your night was pleasant as well, and early happy Thanksgiving to all who are reading this right now! :)
